What is copyright?
Copyright is the exclusive right owned by the owner, that is to say most of the time the creator of the work, to exploit this work and to allow another person to do so.
Under Canadian law (Copyright Act), copyright is assigned automatically to anyone who creates an original work . The exploitation rights of a work belong to the author as long as he has not transferred them in writing, even if the work no longer belongs to him materially because he has sold or given it away. The purchaser or purchaser of the work has a right of ownership only over the physical object. Unless it is stipulated in writing, he has not acquired the right to publicly exhibit the work, to reproduce it or to exploit it in any way.
Quebec law (Act respecting the professional status of artists in the visual arts, crafts and literature and their contracts with presenters) stipulates that no one may exhibit, reproduce or exploit an artist's creation without have obtained their authorization in writing . This includes reproduction in all its forms.
